USA TODAY High School Sports Awards: Los Angeles girls soccer nominees

The USA TODAY High School Sports Awards are slated to celebrate the top student-athletes in the Los Angeles area.

On June 18, 2020, at 6 p.m., USA TODAY will fete high school standouts with a star-studded online show available free of charge to all viewers. The show will also be available on demand after the initial live event.

Here are the 12 nominees for Los Angeles Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

School: Los Alamitos

Class: 2021

Position: Forward

College: Santa Clara

Noteworthy: Barnett was well balanced – 15 goals, 14 assists – in helping the Lady Griffins to the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinal.

Position: Forward

College: Undecided

Noteworthy: One week she netted the lone goal of the game to beat JSerra, she followed up with a goal off an over-the-head cross.

Position: Striker

College: Arizona

Noteworthy: Known to perform a cartwheel after scoring a goal, the Sea King’s aggressive approach and efficient movements drove the offense.

Noteworthy: Farmer scored five goals and assisted on three more at the Bay Soccer Classic.

Noteworthy: The freshman forward found the fast lane in the Freeway League, scoring five first-half goals against Fullerton in January. She also contributed two assists that day.

Noteworthy: Whether it was her hat trick in the second round of the Division 1 playoffs or the two goals she notched in the championship match, Whieldon was a whirl for the Highlanders.

Noteworthy: Williams had 17 goals and 12 assists, including four postseason goals, as she helped JSerra get to the regional championship.
