Shane Bieber tests positive for COVID-19; Cleveland ace could return in a few days
Cleveland ace Shane Bieber, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, recently tested positive for COVID-19, according to president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti.
Bieber is currently going through the league’s health and safety protocols in order to return. Antonetti, speaking on a Zoom call Thursday, said Bieber has experienced “very, very mild” symptoms but the team that he could join the team at their facility in Goodyear, Ariz. within the next few days.
The 25-year-old was the unanimous winner of the Cy Young in 2020, winning eight games with a 1.63 ERA and 122 strikeouts – leading the league in all three categories – across 12 starts during the shortened season.
Cleveland reached the postseason for the fourth time in five years.
