Lakers say all players ‘currently symptom-free of COVID-19’ after 14-day quarantine

The Los Angeles Lakers' players completed a 14-day home isolation after two unnamed players tested positive for the novel coronavirus earlier this month. The Lakers reported that all players are “currently symptom-free of COVID-19.”

The players who tested positive March 19 remain nameless, but LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Danny Green, Quinn Cook and JaVale McGee have said in various appearances that they tested negative for COVID-19. The Lakers made testing available for coaches and trainers, but it is not clear how many tests were administered.

The Lakers made tests available to their players after the Brooklyn Nets announced that four players tested positive for the coronavirus, including injured star Kevin Durant. The Lakers played the Nets on March 10, a day before the NBA suspended its season after Utah center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus. Because of that, the Lakers said that both team physicians and public health officials recommended coronavirus testing for players.

The testing took place on March 18 with medical personnel outside of the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo, California. The procedure involved a doctor inserting a Q-tip-like swab all the way up a players’ nose, something players admitted in various interviews to be a somewhat difficult process.

Last week, the Utah Jazz said that Gobert, Donovan Mitchell and the rest of the players and staff were cleared by the state’s department of health after completing their respective periods of isolation and quarantine following exposure to COVID-19.
