Hong Kong Disneyland sets Thursday reopening date with limited admission, required health declaration

Hong Kong Disneyland is set to reopen its gates on Thursday, the second major Disney park to resume operations after the coronavirus pandemic forced closures around the world.

"Today, as our surrounding community takes steps towards recovery, I’m thrilled to announce that Hong Kong Disneyland will also reopen to the public on June 18," Stephanie Young, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort wrote on the Disney Parks blog.

Shanghai Disneyland and Disney’s Hong Kong park both closed Jan. 25 as China dealt with the burgeoning pandemic. Shanghai reopened May 11, the first Disney park to do so, with restrictions and safety measures which have been adopted by the Hong Kong counterpart, such as limited admission and enforced social distancing.

"During this initial reopening phase, the park will open with limited attendance," Young wrote. "The park will implement social distancing requirements in queues, restaurants, attraction vehicles and at other facilities throughout the park, and will increase the frequency of sanitization and disinfection in high-guest contact areas."

A explanatory video on the blog urged attendees to reserve their visit date online due to the capacity control measures. The online reservation form also features a required health declaration that certifies the health status on behalf of all reservation guests (including statement of no fever, no respiratory symptoms).

Attendees will have their temperature screened upon arrival, while wearing masks is required.

Disneyland Resort plans to reopen Anaheim's Disneyland and sister theme park Disney's California Adventure, on July 17, the 65th anniversary of Disneyland's opening. It has yet to be announced what safety measures will be implemented there.
