Congratulations are in order for Dennis Quaid and Laura Savoie – the couple is married!
Quaid confirmed that he and Savoie eloped to Santa Barbara and were married at a seaside resort on June 2 in an exclusive interview with People published Wednesday.
"It was beautiful," he told the magazine. "Just looking into her eyes, she was the most stunning bride"
The actor, 66, and the doctoral student, 27, exchanged vows with only their pastor as witness, People reports, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Savoie told the magazine that she was moved by the officiant's message "of what it really means to bring your lives together."
"To put another person before yourself," she added.
USA TODAY has reached out to Quaid's rep for comment.
The couple announced their engagement in late October, but it was their 39-year age difference that got people talking.
In November, Quaid said he was not fazed by the comments surrounding their ages, for better or worse.
"That was really a laugh," he said during an interview with The Guardian at the time. “I thought it was wonderful, actually."
The "Parent Trap" actor – whose character in the film was engaged to a 26-year-old gold-digging publicist before his meddling twin daughter intervened – said he has "no control over who you fall in love with."
"I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me," he added. "I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed. … I don’t fall in love easy. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that."
Quaid admitted that the age gap talk "really doesn’t bother us" because "everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can’t comment on the way they feel."
Quaid was previously married to Kimberly Quaid (2004-2018), Meg Ryan (1991-2001) and P.J. Soles (1978-1983).
